God is our Valentine...

So I got this "letter" in the mail on Valentine's Day and thought I would share it because I thought it was really neat.

My Eternal Bride,

I want to reveal a sacred secret to you, My beloved. Although I am your God, I am also your eternal Husband. I will come soon to carry you over the threshold into eternity. My desire is to lift the veil from your eyes that you might see who you really are, My Princess. You are so beautiful to me. When I gaze at you, I see a treasure ready to be discovered and a bride ready to be loved. When I look at you...I love what I see. I am the Lover of your soul, I long to get close enough to give you a glimpse of My eternal love for you. If you will seek me with all your heart, I will reveal Myself to you in extraordinary ways. If you will come before Me and ask, I will give you a new hope in your heart that will change your view of Me, of yourself, and of the world around you forever.

Love,
Your Creator and Husband

"For your royal husband delights in your beauty; honor Him, for He is your Lord." Psalm 45:11

So I thought this was really awesome! It really put Valentine's Day into a different perspective than what we're used to. Usually we think of Valentine's Day as being a day to show your love and affection to that significant other, but it's also seen as being "Singles Awareness Day" for those who don't have that special person. I was always left in that category until this year. This year was the first year where it was no longer a day to be miserable on. After reading this letter, it really clicked with me that GOD is our Valentine. God loves us with so much passion that we cannot even fathom the depths of His never-ending love. He pursues us and calls us beautiful in His image. Who doesn't want to be pursued?! Especially girls...I know that girls love being pursued =) God made us all unique and beautiful....just beautiful. Love has really stuck out to me these past couple weeks just because the word is such a complex term. I love the word "love" which is strange saying, but I really do!! I can't even imagine what all even goes into love! It's so awesome! Sorry for my rants about love, but I "love" that God can love with such a depth that we can't even understand it. So incredibly awesome =) So yes, I hope you all can feel the love of God today because it is the most wonderful feeling.

Slow down...

So I was writing in my journal today after doing devotions and decided it was an interesting topic, so why not write it in my blog that I haven't written in for months =)

"Don't fall into the trap of being constantly on the go. Many, many things people do in My name have no value in My kingdom." (Devos quote)

This definitely applies to me because being a college student means you will ALWAYS be on the go. I always feel guilty having time to relax and spending time in the Word because I could, instead, be checking off something in my handy-dandy planner. I know in Ecclesiastes, it talks about how the work we do here on Earth doesn't matter in our everlasting life with God:

"I was pleased with everything I did, and this pleasure was the reward for all my hard work. But then I looked at what I had, and I thought about all the hard work. Suddenly I realized it was useless, like chasing the wind. There is nothing to gain from anything we do on Earth." (Ecclesiastes 2:10-11)

As you can see, there are a lot of I's and My's in this verse. it is not about the work WE have done here on Earth, but the work that God does through us to share with other people. All the work we do on our own and with our "own" strength means absolutely nothing. We need to go to God for guidance and strength. God is the source of all our strength; we are nothing without His strength. Even though none of our own work matters, it is still important to do our best here on Earth with the work God gives us to do:

"So enjoy the work you do here on Earth. Whatever work you do, do your best, because you are going to the grave, where there is no working, no planning, no knowledge, and no wisdom." (Ecclesiastes 9:9-10).

It's interesting how caught up we get in wanting to go to college so we can ultimately get a good job, when none of this matters in Heaven. God doesn't care if you die a millionaire or a homeless person. As long as you help further God's Kingdom and love God with all your heart, it doesn't matter what work we do on Earth! Something hard wrap our minds around, definitely. So thought for the day...try not to get so caught up in the busyness of the world around us...take a breather and spend some time with God. His creation is absolutely beautiful.
